Spearmint
Mentha spicata L.

Spearmint was used extensively by the Cherokee and Iroquois, also used by other tribes. Considered an analgesic by the Cherokee, it was "taken for colic pains, cramps, and used for nervous headache." The Iroquois made a "cold infusion applied to forehead or powdered plant snuffed for headaches" as an analgesic. The Mahuna used it as a sedative. The Cherokee used it to treat colds and fevers. The plant was widely used for the gastrointestinal system by the Cherokee and Iroquois as well as the Miwok.
