Myrrh
Commiphora myrrha
For millennia, myrrh resin has been prized for its warm, earthy scent and its power to sanctify space. Burned in temples, healing chambers, and homes, it offers a steady, grounding fragrance that supports meditation, prayer, and spiritual cleansing. Whole myrrh resin burns slowly on charcoal, releasing its rich aroma in gentle waves—ideal for longer rituals or when you wish to maintain a continuous sacred atmosphere. Use it alone for its timeless presence, or blend with other resins to create your own signature incense.
Medicinally, myrrh is well known as a mouthwash useful in treating gingivitis and other problems with the gums, including spongy gums. The Commission E Monographs recommend myrrh as a “topical treatment of mild inflammations of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa.”
According to the PDR, myrrh has also been used for the following unproven uses: “Myrrh is used for the topical treatment of mild inflammations of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. In folk medicine, Myrrh is occasionally used internally as a carminative for nonspecific intestinal infections and also as an expectorant for coughs. Folk medicine uses have also included stimulating the appetite and the flow of digestive juices.”
